Repairs
Since Atelier Millinery was founded in 2010, hat refurbishments and repairs have been an important part of our business. Throughout this time Bates Hatters have chosen us as their workroom services supplier and we also undertake repairs for individual customers.
We offer a range of services from steaming and clearing hats to patching panama crowns. We also offer “cosmetic” refurbishments such as changing external decorative ribbons to Fedora and Trilby styles which can bring new life to a well loved hat.

Felt Hat Refresh £30
Give your hat some care with a steam clean and brush. We recommend you do this either when you take your hat out of storage to wear it or when you put it away after the winter. Store with some lavender to help keep moths at bay.
Ladies Occasion Hats from £30
We can replace hairbands or add elastic and combs to make your hat more comfortable to wear for your special occasion. If you have a favourite that needs a makeover contact us to ask about our retriming services prices start at £175.
Hat Resizing from £40
Snug hats and caps can be stretched up to one size using a specialist hat stretcher. To stretch a hat more than one size which requires removal/replacement of the internal sweatband is £110.
Ribbon change £50
Refresh the look of your hat with a new decorative hat band. We have a range of petersham and grosgrain ribbons in 1 and 1.5 inches which are the most popular widths. Alternatively you can source your own ribbon, we recommend Petershams Millinery Supplies who have an extensive range of single colour and striped options.
Lining Replacement £50
Removal and replacement of old lining with a pre-made lining (black or ivory as standard). Complimentary brush and steam included.
Re-blocking from £50
To block either the crown or brim by themselves is £50. A full reblock for misshapen hats is £100
Panama Repairs from £100
One of our most popular services, splits in the weave are carefully repaired and weakened areas can be reinforced by patching. We recommend adding a brim bind to prolong the life of your hat if there is any damage to the edge of the brim. Additional charges will apply depending on the extent of the repairs. Contact us and we’ll recommend a plan of action.
Sweatband Replacement from £110
We can replace these with grosgrain/petersham or fabric bands that we can source. If we need to undertake additional work such as stretching and/or re-blocking the hat back to the original size in order to replace the sweatband £150.
What happens when you contact us about a repair?
We will ask you to send us pictures of your hat so that we can assess its condition and the work to be undertaken. We will give you a quote and you can decide if you would like to go ahead with the repair.
We regret that we are unable to accept hats that show any signs of moth damage to protect the integrity of our studio environment. Once we have agreed to undertake the work hats must be posted to us. Unfortunately we are not able to accommodate drop off or collection of hats in person.
When sending us your hat:
- We recommend that you send it using a signed/tracked/insured form of delivery.
- Pack your hat securely in a box that is large enough to accommodate it along with sufficient packaging to protect it while it is in transit.
- Please allow up to 4 weeks for us to undertake the work.
Much as we would like to save every hat, sometimes they are beyond our capable hands. Shaping hats requires specific blocks and some hats require even more specialist equipment for example vintage top hats and bowlers. If we are unable to repair the hat ourselves we will endeavour to recommend another milliner to help you.
